France Probes Shein and Temu After Sex Doll Scandal

E-commerce platforms such as Shein, Temu, AliExpress and Wish are presently being probed in the French Republic for the offence of allowing youngsters to access pornographic content on their websites, the Paris prosecutor stated on Tuesday.

The nation's consumer watchdog had reported the companies to the prosecution service on Sunday after voicing worries about the availability of childlike adult toys on their online marketplace during the weekend.

The French judicial officials noted that the platforms are being examined over violent, adult or unacceptable content that can be accessed by underage users.

One of the platforms commented that it considers the issue very seriously. The other retailers have also been approached for comment.

Broader Probes and Platform Responses

Shein and AliExpress are also under investigation over the distribution of material related to youngsters that are of a pornographic type, the authorities mentioned.

The issues have been handed over to Paris' Office des Mineurs, the legal body added. This office is an branch of the law enforcement that manages the safeguarding of underage individuals.

The platform stated that the items in question breached its rules and were removed once it was informed of them.

"Sellers found to violate or attempting to evade these requirements will be disciplined in line with our regulations," the platform stated in a official comment.

On Monday, the retailer announced it had prohibited the sale of every adult toys on its website internationally. The based in Singapore company also stated that it would ban indefinitely all merchant IDs related to the prohibited sale of the childlike dolls and enforce tighter measures on its service.

Regulatory Body Findings and Larger Context

The national consumer agency, the DGCCRF, had remarked that the sex dolls' product information and grouping left "clear indication as to the exploitative character" of the items.

The investigation of the retailer occurs while the business, which was founded in China, makes arrangements for the inauguration on this Wednesday of its maiden long-term real-world shop in France.

Activists have been seen gathered in front of the French capital department store where Shein is set to unveil the location.

The retailer intends to open shops in additional French shopping centers in cities including Dijon, Reims and Angers.
